I met Silvia Balostro on a Sunday afternoon in September, when the sun still gives its warmth and relaxes its rays on the furnishings of a garden among the verdant grass, the wild flowers and red and fleshy geraniums adorning a terrace of Borbera Valley.
Silvia is caressing two setter: mom and daughter in a competition to see who gets more pampering; She begins to talk about her work as a restorer. Her sweet eyes light up to my questions.

Silvia is caressing two setter: mom and daughter in a competition to see who gets more pampering; She begins to talk about her work as a restorer. Her sweet eyes light up to my questions. Restoration work is not for her a simple manual action, is not a "do" but a "feel" the matter, in particular wood, with its remote and upcoming scents, colours that time has faded and those who will swaddle new light treasures on which she bends with enthusiasm and genuine passion.

The material and the imaginary

The colours of time

The approach to the art of Silvia is the same I have when I write: something indefinable that, for her,  realizes in the  Ancient Charm laboratory, for me on the white pages; chatting, I look out of a fascinating world and I find her ability to express, with great simplicity and naturalness, strong emotions and content that reveal her creativity in a form from which transpire joy and serenity, but also the desire to be every time involved before a new restoration with the right amount of determination that accompanies, between a brush and a solvent, the grandeur of a choir or the details of a liturgical throne rather than a pictorial reintegration, a golden brown, a wooden integration .

The groove of the time

I'll leave Silvia with a promise to visit her in her lab and reluctantly leave the garden taking with me innovate feelings and the confirmation that dwells in mankind the yearning for beauty that captures the spirit of the Restorer whenever approaching a new restoration.
